Tucson AZ

Arrive Tucson - 1/12/2016 - Leave for Desert Hot Springs CA 2/11/2016

The first destination site that we planned was Tucson AZ. We were last here in 2009 and stayed at Boudrey’s(sp?) RV Park.

That Park was bought by Lazydays and is Now Tucson Lazydays KOA RV Park. We are one isle and about 15 sites away from where we stayed in 2009. We were planning to spend 3 weeks in Tucson but it turned out that it was cheaper to get the site for the month instead of the three weeks. We then changed the RV Park that we were going to next and extended our stay for the full month.

Lazydays is a very large but nice RV park with a lot of extras. 380 sites, reasonable size sties, fruit trees on either side of your rig (oranges on right and grapefruit on the left of our RV). clean, big Dog park, Cantina with bar food, two pools with hot tubs and many more. Since we spent a month here I put three park pictures in the following album. The first week we were in Tucson there was a Jazz Fest downtown. We went to the free day and saw some very talented performers. On our way out of downtown we saw St Augustine Cathedral, very impressive. Now for something you do not see often. In the RV park there was an RV with two very large Great Danes, six puppy great danes that were bigger than Kacey and two other dogs that were smaller. 10 Dogs!

One of the interesting attractions in the Tucon area is the Saguaro National Park. The Saguaro park has two sites one west of Tucson and the other east of Tucson. The park preserves pieces of the Saguaro desert which is a large desert in Arizona and northern Mexico. We went one day to the west park site and about two weeks later to the east park site. At both sites you get to drive a loop around several miles of desert and see a short movie on the desert. You really get a feel for what the desert landscape is like. I took a lot of desert pictures and put some of the better ones in the album. After the desert pictures I put one one picture of a small group of RV’s that were boondocking just off the Ajo road/highway. Very scenic yet not far from housing developments.

In Lazydays there was a good large dog park, Kacey loved it and found several dogs that she liked to run with. In particular there was a Border Collie that was a real heart throb. Linda put up a hummingbird feeder and attracted several hummingbirds. Kacey turned one year old while we were in Tucson.

Next to the Saguaro National Park West was the Tucson Desert Museum. https://www.desertmuseum.org The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a 98-acre zoo, aquarium, botanical garden, natural history museum, publisher, and art gallery founded in 1952. This was the best attraction in the Tucson area in our opinion. We had been there the last time we were in Tucson but this visit we spent much more time there. They have exhibits on trails around the desert. Very cool and informative. The highlights were; the hummingbird house, the Rapter Free Flight, and the local desert animals in exhibit (lion, wolves and bear,   Oh My!).

On the left side of this page I have placed the three free flight videos I took. It was very difficult to track the birds with all the people watching and the speed of the birds. Note that the videos are posted small but  when you play them if you click on the double headed arrow in the bottom right of the box they will fill the screen.

Now for yet another Jim being weird. I had an opportunity to join a club (Cult???) but the initiation rite was a little strange. (see the picture at right)

Since there are a lot of pictures in the album below I will end this page and continue our Tucon stay description on the next page.
