Distant drums Jerome & Sedona AZ

North of Phoenix -  Two Tourist Towns, Jerome & Sedona - Distant Drums RV Resort

After Phoenix it was mid March and we thought the weather would be OK to go to Northern AZ to see Sedona, Canyon De Chelly, and Mesa Verde. We first stayed at Distant Drums RV Resort which was Indian owned and right down the street from the Cliff Casino. Distant Drums was clean, fairly new and well run park. The Cliff was a nice small casino. I kept my non-losing streak alive. I played blackjack for an hour or so and broke even. The highlight of our stay at this RV Park was that two RV’s away from us was an RV with a Male 5 year old Wheaten Terrier “Sully”. Kacey was smitten. Sully was a well trained boy that competed in AKC obedience events.

Jerome AZ is an old mining town. Check out the Wikipedia link; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerome,_ArizonaThere were huge copper deposits and Jerome was the copper capitol of the world. After the mines panned out Jerome became a ghost town. In the sixties the hippies arrived and there is still a hippie presence in the town today. It has become a tourist town and is full of mining town presence, hippie culture, and interesting shops. The settings is beautiful it is up on the mountain over 5000 feet. We really enjoyed our time in Jerome.

Distant Drums was an Irish dogs RV Park. An RV arrived that was between ours and Sully’s RV around the corner. In it was a beautiful Irish Wolfhound. The picture of the family leaving in their VW convertable was special.

Next up is Sedona AZ. We took a family Winter Golf vacation to Sedona about 15 Years ago.The hotel owner at the time said when asked about golf, “Well if it snows it will likely burn off before noon.”. SNOW! It turned out to be alright and the scenery in Sedona made the trip special. Well the scenery is still special. The town has grown quite a bit and is very upscale. The town was very busy with tourists. The shops were interesting and the people very friendly. We brought Kacey and she was a princess strutting around the town attracting a lot of attention. Sedona ranks right up there with the most beautiful towns I have ever been in. There are scenic views when ever you turn around on the downtown streets. The town was fairly dog friendly there were several restaurants that we could have eaten with Kacey. We picked a sidewalk cafe that had good pizza and beer.

After Distant Drums RV Park we went off north to Flagstaff and then east to Gallup NM. The road scenery was more desert and plateau’s and mesas. AT the RV park in Gallup there was a very bizarre RV. Mafia Motorcycles??? Linda refused to be parked next to this RV so they changed our site.

The next Page will be Canyon De Chelly and Mesa Verde near the Four corners. Four corners are where AZ, UT, CO and NM join.
