Palm Springs area 2

Palm Springs CA area -  part 2 - Leave for return to Phoenix AZ area 2/21/2016

Oh lets talk gas prices. California has high gas tax, thus this is the most expensive place to buy gas in the nation. Regular gas was commonly $2.2n a gallon in the valley, almost 75% higher than AZ!

Wednesday we went to the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Desert. This was quite a nice zoo. There were a lot of different animals at the zoo and I got lots of pictures. I have a group of some of the more interesting ones below.

Joshua Tree NP - Key View Overlook - 1

Joshua Tree National Park is north of the valley that has Palm Springs at the western end and Coachella CA at the eastern end. Joshua Tree is a large park as many of the big name national parks are. It was about 45 minutes away from where we were staying. We spent most of a day touring the park. It is a majestic place. A lot of the park is high desert. There is a part of the park that is on a high ridge that has scenic views of Snowcapped mountains and many miles of desert / dry lake beds. Some very interesting rock formations all across the park. We only saw a small fraction of the land area of the park. It was a great day.

On 2/19/2016 Linda and I spent the afternoon at The Riverside County Fair and Date Festival. Riverside county is where Palm Springs CA is. The Fair is in Indio CA. Indio is the Date fruit producing capitol of the world. The Fair was fun. We saw Cochella model railroaders, the Wonderful Mutts and Ostrich/Camel/Zebra racing. Good fair food and a fun time.

The next stop is back to AZ the Phoenix area. We will be staying in Apache Junction east of Phoenix.
