Tucson AZ part 2 - Leave for Desert Hot Springs CA 2/11/2016
Oh lets talk gas prices. Lowest price for regular gas in the rig so far $1.589 in AZ. Lowest price for regular gas in car $1.299 in Tucson. Oh happy days!
This page is Tucson part 2. We are past Saguaro NP and the Desert Museum. Next up is Mission San Xavier Del Bac. Very ornate Mission that looks like a small cathedral. Very nice! It sits on an Indian reservation and was built in the late 1800’s. Very cool. We also attended two of the four Casino’s in the Tucson area. Linda worked Bingo/slots at both and won at one and lost at the other. Not bad for many hours of entertainment. I did not spend much time in either casino but played Blackjack and came out even in both Casino’s. I consider that a win. Casino Del Sol was much prettier than Desert Diamond Casino. Both were nice.
Kacey seems to be loving this RVing thing. She sits/patrols the front dashboard of the rig and watches/comments(barks) on all the dogs/people that pass by. We get lots of stares/comments from the people in the park. At Lazydays there is a large enclosed dog park that Kacey can run in when we first got there she went went crazy running with the other dogs. After about a week or so she developed kennel cough which she must have gotten from the park. We brought her to the vets and she was on anti-biotics for three weeks. By the end of our stay in Desert Hot Springs she was fine.
While in Tucson I did a really stupid thing. I was rearranging the stuff in the back of the car and left my camera bag behind the car. Of course later on I backed the car up over the bag and then drove forward over it again. That broke one of my big lens in half and broke my Nikon camera (along with a few small things like battery charger). I ended up buying a replacement Nikon that was a newer model and better camera. I also bought a used Tamron Lens to replace the broken lens on my Canon. There is always something that happens on the road. Since I am talking about RVing issues, while in Tucson I had my front A/C repaired, I resealed the seams in the roof, and repaired the front slideout that had a shear pin break. That is the fourth front slide repair that I have had to do since we have owned the rig. I don’t know what people with out mechanical aptitude do to keep their rigs running. Oh I know they spend way more money and have to deal with a lot more time waiting for service.
Tucson is the home of the University of Arizona. We spent an afternoon going to the Museum of Art at the university. Neither Linda or I were big fans of the art but it was interesting none the less. The strange Bronze sculpture (picture 10) is a Picasso. They did have an exhibition of old pictures of the Gay Rodeo circuit. Who knew that there was a Gay Rodeo circuit. That exhibit was really interesting. I could take pictures of the art but not of the picture exhibit. I did get to play dress up at the end however. Do I look like a Cowboy? Not Gay I hope.
The last item about our time in Tucson is a comment about the topology of the city/area. Tucson is built on the desert. It has five mountain ranges that surround the city. The mountains are not real close but because they are big mountains they seem like they are very near. One of the peaks is 9,000 feet. Every where you are in the city you see desert going to mountain. Very striking.
Next up the Palm Springs area of CA.
