Apache Junction AZ

Phoenix AZ area -  Apache Junction AZ - Meridian RV Resort

The road from CA to AZ was lots of hills, mountains and desert. We stayed in Meridian RV Resort which is in Apache Junction. Apache Junction is on RT 60 east of Phoenix. It is a very nice RV Resort that had a lot of seasonal residents. This was a nice clean resort. It had a lot of activities that were well attended. Linda and I went to one of the breakfasts and I played in the Texas Hold-Em tournament. I also played in one of the weekly Hold-Em games. This was a good resort and it’s main problem was poor WIFI in certain areas pf the park.

We stopped by a roadhouse one afternoon while comming home from touring the area, Filly’s roadhouse! Now Filly’s was a classic western roadhouse. It had entertainment at night, local bands, good old boys at the bar and a picnic area under the trees out back. Decent bar food and a bartender that called you “HON”. But the best part was we were drinking at the bar and a younger couple came in and sat next to me. Since the guy was wearing chaps and carrying  spurs I asked his partner if they had arrived on horseback. She said yes the horses were tied up out back. How cool.

Since I am talking about roadhouses, on Friday we went out to eat at Superstition Skies roadhouse. It was somewhat quiet when we showed up but by the time we left it was swinging. Good country and western band, everyone (except Linda and I) dressed up in their classic western outfits (kerchief’s, boots and jeans for the guys) and lot’s of two stepping going on. Interestingly it was a little bit older crowd and clearly lots of people knew one another. This like Fillys was a very fun place. Sorry the pictures with my cell phone in the dark do not do it justice.

Lost Dutchman Days, festival, inexpensive , just $2 each to get in free parking. Lots of stuff to buy and a couple of free entertainment Venues, at night there is a Rodeo that we did not attend. Linda loved the wild horse and donkey auction. Very nice little local event.

As with everywhere we went in Arizonia, there was desert and surounding mountains. The local mountain range was Superstition Mountains. About two blocks from our RV resort is a vacent field with a funny sign. For our golfing viewers check out the pictures of Snakehole Golf and Country Club. Someone has a sense of humor.

March 7, we went for a couple of hours to the Gilbert Riparian Preserve. We hiked around the preserve. Kacey went with us. There were lots of birds and rabbits. They had 7 ponds so there were a lot of ducks, coots and quail.  Very nice place to wander. Linda’s highlight was the nest with two baby hummingbirds in it. The baby’s were pretty big so they must be going to fledge soon. Kacey loved it, she liked walking and discovering the wildlife. There was a small creek. She had a ball playing in the water. It was moving after all. She also was a big hit with several mothers and their children. I went a little overboard with including pictures of the Preserve but I could not decide what not to include.

There are a number of other items to include about our stay in Apache Junction so I will do another page on Apache Junction. The next page is Apache Junction - 2.
