Sugarloaf Key

Arrival Date 1/6/2015 - The Keys

We arrived at Sugarloaf Key in the middle of the afternoon after a trip that was just a little over 100 miles but took a long time because of slow going on the keys. After negotiating a new site (the first one was poor) we hooked up with Rick and Lennie Bourne who arrived about an hour or so after us. It was really nice to be back on the keys. I don’t think there is another place like it in the united states. 100 miles of islands connected by bridges. It seems like you are always looking at beautibul blue green water with islands everywhere.

The RV Park had a nice beach (approx. 30’ from our door), a Pub with entertainment, nice swimming pool, small breakfast/lunch place, marina and boat rental. Negatives were it was expensive and had marginal WIFI. Generally we enjoyed the park and had fun socializing with the Bournes. Dinner was good at Mangrove Mamas and we had fun with the entertainment.

We spent a day in Key West which was a blast. The people watching was excellent and we had fun walking the harbor and visiting the bars and restaurants. The highlight was when Lennie and Linda went into Irish Kevins pub. By the time Rick and I got there Linda was up on stage performing the animal pantomime to the Unicorn Song! Now you will need some background to this part of the story. It turns out that Irish Kevins Pub was Rocking and Rolling at this part of the day. The crowd was huge and loud. Irish Kevin was on stage singing Irish songs and had gotten to his sure fire crowd pleaser; “The Unicorn Song”. Now for his finale song for this set he was having a contest, where he had picked people from the crowd (mostly women) to do the animal pantomime while he sang the verse. For those of you not familiar with the Unicon Song here are the Lyrics from the Irish Rovers doing the song.

Here is a video of children and adults doing the animal pantomime.

Now Linda and I have been going to Irish weekend at Poland Springs Resort in Maine for years and years. The Highlight of the entertainment at Poland Springs weekend was the Unicorn song. We all did the pantomime to the song. So little did the other people on stage with Irish Kevin know that they did not have a chance with Linda in the fray. The contest knocked out contestants one by one with each getting their award “shots of Tequila straight from the bottle into their mouths”. It came down to Two. Linda and a young woman. The crowd was going wild! Linda took it in a landslide! She then did a victory performance where Irish Kevin played the verse as fast as he could to see if Linda could keep up. He could not take her down. She was up to the task! Quite a highlight to our day in Key West. I wish I had a good video but the pictures tell a piece of the story. The slideshow follows:
